English 419 Reading List for Fall 2007

Congratulations on electing to take English 419.  In order to prepare for the class, we ask you to read several works over the summer.  These works will be tested and referred to over the course of the year and may be referenced on the A.P. Test in May.  As you read each work, please keep a reader’s log.  This should consist of plot summary as well as questions, observations, comparisons, important quotes, symbols, motifs and whatever other connections you can make to the literature.  (Consult the back of this sheet for additional ideas about analysis).  This will serve as a review for both your test in the fall and your Advanced Placement Test in the spring.  You will be required to obtain the books on your own.  You may either check them out from a library (be aware that approximately 100 students will be competing for the same books) or purchase them from your local book store.  Enjoy your reading and welcome to the rigors of Advanced Placement.  If you have questions, please see Ms. Laforet in the English office.
