Boy’s cross
country finishes strong

Boys’ cross country has a lot to be proud of, closing the
season at 78 wins and 28 losses. They have done exceptionally well
in meets this year, according to Matthew Dowd, head coach.
“We placed second in an invite at Fenton High. We also placed
sixth out of fifty-four teams at the Peoria Invite, which was pretty
exciting,” Dowd said.
Matthew Perez (‘09), Kyle Gonzales (‘10), and Marlen Hamilton
(‘10) represented the team in conference, regionals, and sectionals.
After a great finish in conference, Perez, Gonzales, and Hamilton
placed 7th, 12th, and 26th, respectively, at regionals. All three of
them qualified for sectionals in November as well, where Perez
placed 15th, Gonzales placed 22nd, and Hamilton placed 61st.
Team captains Matthew Perez (’09) and Steven Chin (‘09)
brought their team all the way to state this year, determined after
not qualifying last season. On November 8, Perez led the team at the
IHSA State meet, placing 73rd with a time of 15:28.
