- The average teaching experience of Science faculty is 10.8 years.
- 11 out of 18 of the Science teachers have Masters degrees, and 8 of these have 30+ hours of advanced study beyond their M.A.
- 22 different science courses are taught within the department.
- Earth Science is our fastest growing course.
- Accelerated Biology students participate in unique real life applications of topics taught in class. The activities range from solving a crime by using DNA fingerprinting to using forensic techniques to remove DNA from fruits.
- Our students have consistently won or placed in JETS/WYSE and Academic Bowl competitions. Hoffman has won the district competition seven times and gone to the finals three times.
- Our Science Bowl team won the Milwaukee Regional and competed in the National Finals last year in Washington, DC.
- 85% of our Advanced Placement Biology, Chemistry, and Physics students scored a 3 or higher on the national exam.
- S.A.V.E. Club (Students Against Violating the Environment) gives students the opportunity to get involved in environmental education and protection programs. The club also sponsors one of the biggest events of the school year, the Battle of the Bands.
- Science teachers, students, and the Horticulture Club maintain a very diverse and growing greenhouse.
- There are 14 computers in each science classroom to be used by every student. Each computer is equipped with up-to-date software and sensor probes that can be used to collect data in labs.
- The Science Club covers a wide variety of topics related to the real world.
